As a bit of a paranoid neurotic, I’m always worried about the safety of the photographs that I take. I know that I’m not a world class photographer, but I am still proud of the pictures I have taken and I do not want to lose them in an accident. Consequently, I opted to buy the best camera backpack that would suit my needs. As I have an SLR camera, I picked the AmazonBasics Backpack for SLR Cameras.
What to Look for in a Camera Bag
After looking at the many options available to me for a while, I decided that I had to find out what the ideal characteristics of a backpack for transporting a camera are. I found that ideally, it should be:
- Comfortable to carry
- Shock -resistant (if possible)
- Have a non-stick bottom
- Be able to fit your camera and all of its accessories easily
How Does the AmazonBasics Backpack Compare?
The most basic requirement that you want form a backpack is that it is comfortable to carry. This is usually achieved by supplying padded straps so that you do not feel it chafe when you transport it over long distances. The AmazonBasics Backpack for SLR Cameras meets and exceeds the requirement of being comfortable to use in my personal opinion.
The outside of the bag is made of polyester and nylon combined. In my experience, this is an extremely durable combination, which means that I expect to be using this bag for many years to come. It certainly meets the durability requirement!
One of the most attractive features of the AmazonBasics Backpack in my mind was the fact that it easily takes the SLR camera as well as a number of other accessories. The product description on Amazon.com says that it can fit the following:
- 2 smaller SLR camera bodies
- 3-4 lenses
- Additional small accessories
However, after personal use, I found that this is an understatement and that the bag has room for everything you could possibly need in it. The pack is described as having “ample interior storage”, which is, in my personal experience, certainly true.
Product dimensions: 11.5 x 7.2 x 15.6 inches (292mm x 183mm x 396mm); Internal: 10 x 5 x 14.75 inches (254mm x 127mm x 374mm)
This backpack includes storage space both on the outside as well as on the inside, which means that there are a number of different items that I can choose to take with me when traveling with this particular backpack. My previous backpack had very little additional storage space once the camera was inside, so it was far from ideal. I would much rather have a bag with more space than I need than a tiny mini backpack that can’t hold everything it needs to. Perhaps I am simply amazed by the difference between my old backpack and my new one and that is why it seems so wonderful, but deep down I feel that this is the best option for someone with an SLR camera who is dedicated to protecting their photographs.
When you buy this bag on Amazon.com you will get a 1-year warranty. This is also a feature which caught my attention because it made me feel that if they are willing to provide a warranty, it means that they are secure in the knowledge that the bag will last and that no one will claim. I have yet to see how long this backpack will last me, but so far it showing very little sign of giving up.
I checked out the Amazon.com reviews before buying this bag. Unusually there were a high number of five-star ratings and not many others, making me believe that this was a good choice. Themes that came up frequently when I read these reviews included the impressive quality of the bag as well as the fact that it is well padded, thereby protecting its contents. Most reviewers said that they would recommend this bag to a friend else, so I took that as a positive sign and have since been extremely happy with my purchase.
It’s always wise to have a look at the negative reviews as well, but there were only 9 to consider (in comparison to 345 five-star reviews). Some complaints that previous customers had about the product included the following:
- The workmanship in regards to stitching and general strength has been called into question
- Some reviewers have stated that it is quite an uncomfortable pack as it sits high on your back and puts too much pressure on your neck
- The main complaint that you will see is that the bag starts to fall to pieces very soon (although I personally have yet to experience this)
I must say that one of the appealing aspects of this product for me was the cost. Not only was it cheaper than many other backpacks for cameras that I found online, but it was also cheaper to buy it from Amazon.com than form most other sources. On Amazon.com at the moment it is on sale for $32.60.
Where can I Find out More?
The best places, in my opinion, to find out more about this product are:
- Amazon.com: not only will you find useful reviews about the product form a variety of different customers, you will also be able to easily see what the product specs are and compare them to other options
Where Can I Buy this Product?
It is possible to find this product in most specialty shops with a focus on photography, but I bought it online from Amazon.com because of the price and the convenience. The backpack was shipped to me in record time. I often use Amazon to make online purchases and as usual, they failed to disappoint. In addition, it is not always guaranteed that you will find the product in stores.
